Purple Belt was by far the belt where I had the most fun. It’s really cool being a Black Belt. There’s a lot of respect that’s paid to that rank along with those mythical ones that come after it, but Purple Belt is where the fun happens.
We can all agree, White is trash and Blue is just a step above White. These two belts require a lot of paying your dues and more often being the nail instead of the hammer. Don’t get me wrong, you will have those moments where you feel like you’re kinda getting it.
Purple Belt is when things start to really click.
At this point your instincts, muscle memory, crispness of technique, and timing start start working together. Depending on the size of your gym, you’re probably better than most of the people you train with. Quality Purple Belts will also routinely threaten Browns and some Black Belt.
As stated earlier, by far the most fun of the belts you’ll put on.
In terms of responsibility, you might be asked to teach on occasion. Some will run a Kids or even a Fundamentals class on their own or as an assistant to a Brown or Black Belt, but the majority of Purple Belts get to be unruly teenagers.
The biggest bullies are Purples, they finally have a bit of skill so they show off on White and Blue Belts and routinely skip warm ups.
Purple Belt Benefits:
Get to show up late to class.
More experienced than most of the class.
You can threaten Brown and Black Belts.
Minimal responsibility.
