Training Jiu-Jitsu without questions is difficult and complicated.
Some of the best things that you can do for yourself are Grip Fighting, have a certain level of Commitment, gathering Feedback, and Ask Questions.
When a student has a willingness to be a willing participant in these areas, growth happens at a much faster rate. I would much rather have a student push themselves here, than buying instructionals trying to memorize techniques.
Grip Fighting - It does not matter what areas of the game you find yourself in, your job is to grip fight. Whether from bottom, top, standing, or kneeling. Fighting off and achieving your desired grips, requires you to hand fight.
Commit - Your level of commitment is key in two big areas. Commit to a schedule, a minimum amount of classes a week on average. For some that might be as little as two and for others it might be as much as five or six. The other is your commitment to the technique you choose to hit. If you’re executing a sweep, commit to it. Half measures don’t help.
Feedback & Questions - The students that get better faster are usually asking questions and requested invaluable feedback. Ask questions about specific techniques, mindset, and approach. Don’t be ashamed about looking bad, we’ve all been there.
