Technique Tuesday
Technique Tuesday is a weekly series where I share one principle, detail, or concept that can sharpen your Jiu-Jitsu. Instead of long instructionals, these are quick, practical breakdowns you can take straight to the mats.
Each post includes:
One core technique or principle explained in clear, actionable terms
A training tip or prompt you can focus on that week
The goal is simple: give you something concrete to improve your game every Tuesday, while tying it into the bigger picture of growth both on and off the mats.

Armbar Off Of A Failed Bread/Paper Cutter Choke
I visited Jiu-Jitsu Foundation this morning and the instructor there taught the Double Under Pass into a Bread/Paper Cutter Choke. A fantastic paring, something that I often work to from time to time but have never been great at.
At one point he came over and said that he had set aside some time at the end if I wanted to teach something so I piggy backed on where he left off and went with the Armbar off of that same position.
The first time I saw this armbar was when I was training with Darren Branch. He would get to this position and just keep hitting me with this armbar. I thought the man was a wizard.
While this is not a go-to for me, it is one of those techniques that I love throwing in on occasion to spice things up.

Final Thoughts
There’s nothing wrong with the traditional escapes, but if you want to add a little spice to them, try these out. When times just right, they are almost effortless and incredibly useful against all sizes.
