Guys always catch me in transition submissions but I don't think I'm agile or skilled enough yet to do that. Recently I've started to stay in the pin position when I get it and just move between: side control, knee on belly, or mount.
Something you can try it being in the pin position, going for a sub while you're there and allowing their reaction to be your transition.
Example. Top Side Control Americana attempt. If all goes well you end the encounter with a sub. If they turn towards you or slip their head inside of your arms, you can now go to mount. If they bend the arm in the opposite way, you have kimura. If you get the sub great. If not, you can transition into North South or an arm bar. In these examples, you're latched on to a body part making it easier to move without completely disengaging.

I will try that next class, thank you!
